"The sky broke like an egg into full sunset and the water caught fire." -- Pamela Hansford Johnson
Show us a self-taken picture of the sunset.
Submitted by Connie.
I'll show you a self-taken picture of myself and the sunset. So there.
When I first started 'taking pictures' I still lived out in the country at my parents house. It had wonderful views of sunsets, so they were very photogenic and good 'learning' experiences. However, I won't post any of those ones.
Instead, this one too the left I took last year. It probably isn't quite the 'sunset' they meant, but I still like it.
And the one to the right is one from my winter trip a couple years ago, where 90% of the photos I took were taken while I was driving (including this one).
I honestly had no idea this was the sun, until I'd passed over a hill. I thought it was just some random red light in someone's yard.. heh
Anyway I figured I'd post some 'unconventional' sunset photos, to mix it up a bit.
What was the last wedding you went to? Were you in the wedding?
Wow, is it wedding season or what? The last wedding I went to was for my cousin Shannon, in Ottawa this June. I was not in the wedding (she didn't really have a wedding party, and her dad and her groom's dad signed the legal papers as witnesses, which I thought was a nice idea). It was weird that she didn't have a bridal party, but it makes sense because all her family is like 8 hrs away (they're in Ottawa, we're down here), so it wouldn't really have been fair for only the groom's side to be involved.
Anyways, there are some "great wedding photos" to the right, to satisfy the Vox Hunt:
The next wedding I'm going to is for my friend Kim, next month. She's kinda freaking out, but doing alright. lol
I'm not in her wedding either, but she also doesn't really have a bridal party, just a maid of honour. The pics on the left are from her bridal shower (that's her seated, with the MOH standing). The cake was cute. :)
She's having a bachelorette party (which I pushed for because she wasn't going to have one) some time this month. I really hope I can go because there's potential for it to conflict with something else I have to attend in a couple weeks. Sigh. Wouldn't that be great to tell someone you think they should have a party because it'll be great for them, then they have it on a day you can't go? :\
Anyways, I'll also be attending (not participating) in another cousin's wedding next summer. Geez. I've been to easily more than 10 weddings in my life already, and stood in 4 or 5 of them (sad I can't remember exactly how many anymore... lol), and played the piano in one. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride... etc etc.
I'd like the option of not getting married, but that's not really 'proper' in my family. It just seems like a hell of a lot of hassle and all I know is mine is going to be very low-key. I do like hosting and planning parties, but all the extra crap about what the cake looks like and etc seem kind of useless in respect to what a 'wedding' really represents. Yes, I'd like things to look nice, but also, damnit I'm cheap and poor (a bad combination) and there's no way I'm wasting a bunch of money on something that's one day.
.... so says the girl that's not even engaged yet. I'll likely change my mind (I'm good for that)

My poem to my cousin Shannon (and her hubby) which I included with my card/gift.
There once was a couple,
named Shannon and Will.
They lived (relatively speaking),
near Parliament Hill.
Of course, they were cheerful,
and in love, don’t ya know…
Through the summer and winter,
the rain and the snow.
Any person could see,
oh so happy were they.
So it only made sense,
that they married one day.
And that’s why we came,
from the easts and the wests.
All gathered together,
Quite a mishmash of guests.
To wish many loving,
blissful and long years,
to the happy couple.
Raise a glass, and say ‘CHEERS!’
Show us something that you are saving or budgeting for.

*sigh* that's funny, because I was JUST thinking of making a list of all the things I'd like to buy if money were not an option. So I'll tweak this question a bit. Show us something that you would buy if you actually had cash.
First, this little baby. I want one. It's powerful enough to take highway trips to my parents house (and other road trips), but cute and 'scooty' enough to be good in the city and kinda girlie. I even bought a new *pink!* backpack, and bought a book to study for my motorcycle license. 'New', they are about $6200 for this model which is still a lot (considering I could get a well-running used car for that). I'm hoping they also sell used ones so I can get one next year for cheaper, then in theory, I wouldn't need my car.
Second, I would like a new camera. Not so much to 'replace' the old, but to be a more portable version that I can slip in my purse (within a smaller camera case of course). I don't bring my other camera (a Canon S2 IS) with me much because it's so bulky. When I DO get a new camera though, I KNOW I will greatly miss the 10x optical zoom that I have now. sigh. Also, I would buy a new printer, with possibly a scanner built in, since my printer is kind of crap. I got it for $100 about 4-5 years ago, so it's done its duty.
Third, a plane ticket. Not sure where, not sure when, but somewhere, and soon.
So there. And yes, I'm sure I'm saving for a wedding and a house and all that crap, but I want these first. There are many other things I'd 'save' for and put on this list, but I can't remember them all now, and most of them are silly little things, like a new computer desk. heh
sigh. sighsighsigh.

Show us something that's ridiculously cute.
The one on the top (the orangey girl), is now a mom of her own pile o' kitties'. Two orange, one grey. :) They're also very cute. Ah, the circle of life. And yes, HER mom (aka now grandma Kitty of the other Pile o' Kitties) still hangs around my parents' yard.
Show us some birds.
I've put together a nice variety here I think. ;) Some wild, some not so much. All equally amusing.
I am catching up on a few, so instead of spamming with multi-entries, you get a compact version!
Book: Show us a book you started reading but never finished.
Audio: Share something extremely rare that deserves to be heard.

I don't know how 'extremely' rare any of these are, but they're not 'common' by any means, which makes it all the more interesting. Mind you, I haven't really listened to the radio (other than CBC Radio Two) for a long time (like a year or something) but I doubt many of these are on the top 40s list. ;)
In order left -> right; The 1st one is one of my all time favourites from Sesame Street, and I can still picture the animation that went along with it on the show. The 2nd one is from an anime movie that one of my ex boyfriends had me watch when we were friends/dating/whatever. It's really relaxing so I just kind of zone out when I listen to it. hah The 3rd is something that I played in a message for my mom on her birthday one year. For the last couple years for both her and my dad I've left messages for them on their birthdays of various versions of the happy birthday song. One year my dad made me sing it myself. :P boooo... I was at school at the time. Literally. I called him from the program office, and he made me sing. lol Finally, the 4th one is a song that I just really like for some reason. I love the piano. I did an editing project on this song in college so I've probably had to listen to it more times than any other song in history :P But I still like it.
Again, I multi-post items. I've always been bad with decisions, and like having options. I guess that's why I have few 'favourites' in life. Anyways, instead of just one piece of art like they probably meant, here you get to see 80% of the art in my home. lol Some came from Walmart and the dollar store (go figure), others were gifts. My tastes are pretty much flowers/landscapes. Yes, exciting I know. Obviously I also believe that if things come in pairs (or things have 'matches'), why buy just one? I'm still waiting for my dad to paint me something. :PShow us some art in your home.
