It's dedication time. What song are you sending out, and who is it dedicated to?
Sweet!
I'm still on a music high from yesterday's show, so you get more of them. :D
Joel played this song last night, and it was so beautiful. This video is also interesting because it's basically him jamming at some house party or something it seems (found it on YouTube). I used to have friends that did that in college, and shortly thereafter (my ex-boyfriend was in a band, so that helped. I was surrounded by musicians a lot of the time back then). I miss those moments so much. Just sitting around listening to people playing their guitars in their living rooms and the student lounge and such. So I dedicate this to all of them.
and ironically, I think this is him talking about the above video moment... and he's dedicating it to his sound man (it's a bit better quality for sound, if you care to listen)

Great music is that which penetrates the ear with facility and leaves the memory with difficulty. Magical music never leaves the memory.

What one year of your life would you like to re-live, if you were given the chance?
Submitted by Ross.
The year just after I graduated college, which would be from about Mayish of 2002 to mid-2003. I would NOT have started a relationship with my ex boyfriend (we ended up being together for 3 and a 1/2 years, and it, in hindsight, was one of the biggest wastes of time in my LIFE... I made a lot of sacrifices and the ended up with my entire early twenties, which should've been a prime time for me, being a time of little progress and experiences). Not fun.
I would've made different living and career choices on top of relationship choices in that year as well. Ultimately, that year is what changed my life the most thus far, in terms of major occurrences (or lack there of), and turned it in a irreversible direction that I don't really like.
Do you have a pet? What kind of pet do you own, and why did you choose it?
Submitted by Brendz.
HAH
I think I already made that clear, but I don't think I've put them all in one post or explained why I 'choose' each of them.
In order of appearance in my life, we have Kitty, which you can view various pictures of in the video to the right (which I've posted in the past here).
She appeared in my life 5 years ago. For some reason, I really wanted a cat, so I went to the animal shelter and they had SOOOOO many. It was really hard to decide. I probably should have held off and waited for a cat to 'choose me', or something grand like that, but no, I'm shallow, and choose her because damnit she was cute and had polka dots on her belly. I love her more than I love most of the people in my life. lol She is cute and cuddly, and bitchy when she wants to be, and somewhat anti social. Kinda like me. :P
Next we have Speck and Dusty. They're my dwarf hamsters. I've had them since last October, so I suppose in dwarf hamster years, they're getting old now. That makes me sad. They're so damn cute too. I choose them, um, also because of the cuteness I suppose. I wanted a little fuzzy creature and every time I was at the pet store it was harder and harder to move on without one. One day I finally said 'damnit, I'm getting some!'. I actually drove across town twice (took an
Anyways. They're really fun and cute. They now have two cages actually that connect to each other with a tube so they have some extra room. The other cage is blue and purple and green (in case they're feeling masculine, they can hang out there). I thought of their names on the way home from the pet store with them. Speck is the white one with the markings ('specks?' :P) and Dusty is the brown one. I think the names are fitting. These pics are from when I first got them, but they haven't changed much. ;)
Then we have fishies. They have no names. I had an aquarium a few years ago, with some awesome fish in it... but when my boyfriend at the time and I broke up he got it. I'm pretty sure he just left it behind somewhere, which kinda pisses me off because I had to get a new one for myself and he pretty much just threw the old one away. But whatever. I'm not sure I'll keep the fish after I move anyway, but they're kinda neat. I have more than what's in the pic, but fish are hard to photograph. lol I try not to get attached to fish. The really neat ones don't seem to last long. lol
As for why I chose them, I suppose because I like aquariums, even though they're a lot of work. They're calming and pretty. The type of fish I chose were for 'beginners' and I chose them for their ability to get along with each other. The ones in the tank now I believe I got some time last winter. I don't remember exactly when.
Finally of course we have Spencer. We got him this April and he's been pretty freaken neat. :) I wanted to get a dog again for a long time, and living in a townhouse, instead of an apartment, made me finally feel like I had some room. Sadly though, we have to move back into an apartment, and I don't think it's fair to have large dogs in apartments, so he's going to be staying at my parents house. They have LOTS of room, and another dog that he'll be able to play with. I'm glad I'll still get to see him. We chose him because of his appearance and demeanour. He seemed pretty mellow (for a puppy), and has proven to be very intelligent, and very friendly, if not occasionally a pain in the butt. :P Rather than reposting pics, I direct you to all my previous posts tagged Spencer. If you don't feel like filtering through all those you can just check out the one of me introducing him and announcing that we got him here. Ahh memories.

What was the last wedding you went to? Were you in the wedding?
Wow, is it wedding season or what? The last wedding I went to was for my cousin Shannon, in Ottawa this June. I was not in the wedding (she didn't really have a wedding party, and her dad and her groom's dad signed the legal papers as witnesses, which I thought was a nice idea). It was weird that she didn't have a bridal party, but it makes sense because all her family is like 8 hrs away (they're in Ottawa, we're down here), so it wouldn't really have been fair for only the groom's side to be involved.
Anyways, there are some "great wedding photos" to the right, to satisfy the Vox Hunt:
The next wedding I'm going to is for my friend Kim, next month. She's kinda freaking out, but doing alright. lol
I'm not in her wedding either, but she also doesn't really have a bridal party, just a maid of honour. The pics on the left are from her bridal shower (that's her seated, with the MOH standing). The cake was cute. :)
She's having a bachelorette party (which I pushed for because she wasn't going to have one) some time this month. I really hope I can go because there's potential for it to conflict with something else I have to attend in a couple weeks. Sigh. Wouldn't that be great to tell someone you think they should have a party because it'll be great for them, then they have it on a day you can't go? :\
Anyways, I'll also be attending (not participating) in another cousin's wedding next summer. Geez. I've been to easily more than 10 weddings in my life already, and stood in 4 or 5 of them (sad I can't remember exactly how many anymore... lol), and played the piano in one. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride... etc etc.
I'd like the option of not getting married, but that's not really 'proper' in my family. It just seems like a hell of a lot of hassle and all I know is mine is going to be very low-key. I do like hosting and planning parties, but all the extra crap about what the cake looks like and etc seem kind of useless in respect to what a 'wedding' really represents. Yes, I'd like things to look nice, but also, damnit I'm cheap and poor (a bad combination) and there's no way I'm wasting a bunch of money on something that's one day.
.... so says the girl that's not even engaged yet. I'll likely change my mind (I'm good for that)

My poem to my cousin Shannon (and her hubby) which I included with my card/gift.
There once was a couple,
named Shannon and Will.
They lived (relatively speaking),
near Parliament Hill.
Of course, they were cheerful,
and in love, don’t ya know…
Through the summer and winter,
the rain and the snow.
Any person could see,
oh so happy were they.
So it only made sense,
that they married one day.
And that’s why we came,
from the easts and the wests.
All gathered together,
Quite a mishmash of guests.
To wish many loving,
blissful and long years,
to the happy couple.
Raise a glass, and say ‘CHEERS!’
What was your favorite road-trip of all time?
Submitted by bodhibound.
It was one that I took by myself, and I think that's what makes it my favourite. Doesn't make it the 'best', or the most 'fun', but it was my favourite nonetheless.
It was just two days, one night, and it was in the middle of the week when I happened to have two days off in a row. I was having a tough time with some personal issues, and had leased a new car (which I now have to get rid of, but whatever) which I felt was reliable, so I thought it was a good time to get away by myself. I drove in HORRIBLE weather (it was mid-January of 2006), and hiked through conservation areas that were completely deserted and filled with snow. I stayed overnight in a hotel I picked that same night, and told the receptionist the next morning that I didn't know where I was going that day when she asked what I had planned. It took me 8 hrs the 2nd day to drive home, and found out later that I had been driving on a road that had actually been closed due to weather conditions. I was completely lost in the woods for a half hour or so while darkness quickly approached, and didn't see a single soul. It was so absolutely quiet because the snow muffled a lot of sounds. It was perfect honestly (other than the 'lost' part). Like a little wintery retreat.
I made a pledge to myself that I would take one small road trip like that every month. Unfortunately, two months later, I met Chris (my b/f), and while he would've been up for random road trips I'm sure, and would have allowed me to go on them alone, it would definitely not have been the same. sigh. I KNEW I should've stayed single longer than I did :P
Anyways... here are some more pics:
You've found the fabled pot o' gold. How will you spend it?
Submitted by Red Pen.
Pay off credit cards, quit my job and travel for a year, buy my dad an airplane and my mom a ford mustang, and put $ into a college fund for my nephew. Then I'd marry my b/f and buy a new car and a house and a dog. :)
..... and a pony.
On another note, I apparently had the default comment settings on my blog super high and didn't notice when I posted those videos yesterday, but they're fixed now! :)
Do you keep a journal or diary? How often do you write in it?
Submitted by Kim.
I used to when I was younger, but they seem so... vulnerable. Online I feel I have more control, and though I make public posts on this blog, all my posts on livejournal are friends-only. No one can stumble across the book, jimmy the key and read my most inner thoughts... well, not that I post my 'inner thoughts' and mumblings on LJ anyways, but I know that if I kept a paper journal, I'd want to.
It's funny because I think I have a very 'visual' sort of memory, and can't really recall anything unless I SEE it. If someone says something to me, I won't remember it at all if I can't visualize something with it, or take notes. So, you'd think I'd be more inclined to want to write things down.
Eh... I might start a journal for fun, if I can keep to it. I do have a place I can 'hide' things, and not really worry about them being 'discovered' by anyone random. I've started quite a few journals here and there, but haven't kept one steady for a long time.
I'm vaguely planning a month-long trip next spring/summer so I would like to keep a written journal for that. Wish me luck.
Have you ever Googled your own name? How did you feel about the results?
Submitted by elen.
Absolutely, and I was amused to no end. The best part is image-googling.
I came up with results like these:
When do you start your holiday shopping?
Submitted by Murphy.
HAH! You slackers. I've already started mine! I'm about 1/2 done, and there are some that I haven't wrapped yet. Still have to get some things for the b/f, and more for mom and dad, and something for my secret santa person at work. :)
Here's what the progress looks like so far (and yes, I had also started shopping early last year... I get it from my mom I think. She starts in the SUMMERTIME :P ):
Not too shabby if I do say so. My cat is looking prim and proper. She's such a sneaky faker, but it's nice that she posed for the camera.
