I completely didn't even realize that yesterday was the 21st (which, if you've been following along, means that I owe you a song). I almost forgot it was Thursday even, but thankfully I remembered in time to watch Lost!! I've been working good hours lately, which also means it's an adjustment period to suddenly not having as much free time. Well, it's like a permanent adjustment with this job one way or the other.. but still.
Anyways, here are a couple of songs to make up for it. Both are pretty good, and were amusing to hear.
First is one of my favourite '70s funk' type of songs.
Seriously, it's just a ' fun' song... heh Except now I envision stupid scenes from SharkTale, which is a crappy movie, so that kinda ruins it for me.
So, let's move to the next.
Classic. Reminds me of a public school talent show or something, and some kids sang it. I've only seen this movie once, and it was decent I guess. I didn't see it in it's prime time (aka, pre-1995), so it bordered on amusing lameness for being outdated. At least Tom Cruise wasn't a freak at the time. I don't associate the song with the movie though.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy!
Sorry for the lateness.

Music is the soundtrack of your life.
~ Dick Clark
Since today is the 11th, that means it ends with a 1, which means as I promised, here's another tune from the #1 soundtrack hits that I purchased just after Christmas. Actually, I'm going to stretch and post two this time, mostly because they're both not that good, and one I hadn't really heard of anyways, so I'm counteracting that with a good one.
The first is from DreamGirls, however, this is the original version featuring Jennifer Holiday, not the other one featuring what'sherface. I don't really like this song, maybe because I'm immature enough that her emotions and 'angry' yelling rather than singing in some parts sounds lame and makes me laugh, rather than be like 'you go girl'...
The second one today also makes me laugh, mostly because, as my b/f put it, it's basically heard in every Hallmark made-for-tv movie ever. Classic. Originally from An Officer and A Gentleman, it's made appearances in a number of other things, like South Park, Scrubs and Family Guy, believe it or not. lol
Sometimes I wish I had friends and family that understood my weirdness rather than questioned it... because really, I think it'd just be hilarious to play crap like this at my wedding, but they'd all think it's weird and idiotic. I'm sure I'd think it'd idiotic too, especially looking back in a few years wishing I'd picked something classier, but then again, I also think the people that danced to "Baby Got Back" as their first dance are my wedding-heroes.
Alas, maturity may catch up with me on my wedding day, whenever that is, and 'classy' will no doubt prevail.
It's dedication time. What song are you sending out, and who is it dedicated to?
Sweet!
I'm still on a music high from yesterday's show, so you get more of them. :D
Joel played this song last night, and it was so beautiful. This video is also interesting because it's basically him jamming at some house party or something it seems (found it on YouTube). I used to have friends that did that in college, and shortly thereafter (my ex-boyfriend was in a band, so that helped. I was surrounded by musicians a lot of the time back then). I miss those moments so much. Just sitting around listening to people playing their guitars in their living rooms and the student lounge and such. So I dedicate this to all of them.
and ironically, I think this is him talking about the above video moment... and he's dedicating it to his sound man (it's a bit better quality for sound, if you care to listen)

Great music is that which penetrates the ear with facility and leaves the memory with difficulty. Magical music never leaves the memory.
~ Sir Thomas Beecham
sigh.... gotta update again. lol And damnit I'm starting this post before 11:30pm on November 6th, so I don't give a crap that it's not going to be finished until after midnight on the "7th".
Last night I went out (as briefly discussed in my previous entry.. lol) to see a lovely man called Joel Plaskett. ooooo... an affair!??! No... no no. I'm much more of a boring (and monogamous?) person than you think if that thought came into your mind. le sigh.
<----- Joel Plaskett 'tis he.
A local bar called Call The Office has a pretty wicked music scene, especially for its size (max 150 ppl or something? Either way.. it's tiny) and it gave me the pleasure of being unofficially introduced (I say 'un' because I didn't go shake the guy's hand afterwards, though, had I not had to work this morning the party would've stayed out later ifyaknowwhatImean) to the Joel Plaskett Emergency, one of Canada's greatest achievements. haha.. jk... but seriously, they're a fantastic band. I had bought their CD prior, so knew 1/2 the songs he played, which was handy for headbopping and singing along.
Also fantastic were the openers Two Hours Traffic (whom I'd seen at CTO previously and fell in love with), AND, there was also Peter Elkas (playing w/ JPE), who I'll admit I'd never heard of before yesterday (er today, actually.. after doing some research). I thought he was part of JPE.. I'm retarded. But now I know the truth. He was hot... and talented. No wait, that was true before. But really, he just kinda plays shows with them sometimes, which I think is awesome.
It doesn't take much to impress me if you're a musician really. You pretty much sing 'la de da' and I'm hooked. Play la de da and the harmonic/keyboard/drums/guitar and be a even a LITTLE good looking... and christ, I'll give you something to la de da about...
But that aside, these guys ARE all truly talented, and if you like good music, I implore you to check them out. If you are Canadian especially, I think you must, because everyone likes home grown talent, and all these fellas are Canadian. Yeah that's right, all you Yanks on my list. WE HAVE BETTER MUSIC THAN YOU!. hahaha jk!... oh geez... what did I just start... I love you Americans! Seriously! (but the music thing... we own).
Anyways, I should wrap up this post since it's 10 minutes to midnight. Oh right! I don't care! So, I leave you with more pics of yesterday (now the day before?), and a link to a very brief video that I hope works for you (on facebook, so you may need to log in). Next time I am DEFINITELY bringing my other camera to try it out, because I was really disappointed in the quality on this one. I know it's a bar and dark and the batteries were dying, but still.. My video of Joel Plaskett (and though you can't tell it, when he's looking towards the camera, he's looking INTO my camera.. I *heart* him. lol). Here's also my friend's video of Joel Plaskett Hers is much better. I still suggest checking out their official sites (linked in the other paragraphs) for true quality of their music.
Joel Plaskett Emergency (Peter Elkas is on the far left in the group shot):
Two Hours Traffic (and Peter E again in the first pic on the left, but he's on the right, in the gray vest):
And here is a random, 'official' video from each performer I saw (Peter gets his own too, even if he was with JPE, because he's good, and has a unique sound compared to the others). I didn't choose the 'best', I seriously chose randomly, except in the case of JPE, in which case I chose the most recent. The others, I have no idea. lol I need to research them more.

*sigh*
I f'ing love good music.
